I feel blessed to have shared my life with the most perfect little girl who loved everything living. Well, she would get annoyed with Shamus occasionally, but I think she still loved him. Siobhan, you were the sweetest and most loving dog I have ever known. As a therapy dog, you brought smiles and happiness to those you visited and performed for an assisted living and memory care. It brought tears to my eyes when I saw the joy you brought to them.
You loved your one-on-one time working with your Mom. We had fun doing Rally Obedience until you started Nosework, then Rally was a thing of the past and nothing was more fun than finding an odor and getting a treat for it…. that didn’t happen in Rally! And then came Barn Hunt. Who would have known that you had such prey drive? Forget those essential oils, it’s the rat you wanted! You were always so fussy about getting stuff stuck to you on walks – if a leave or twig attached itself to your fur, you stopped immediately until I removed it. But not in Barn Hunt! You would run around that ring with bits of hay sticking up from your little body with no care whatsoever – you wanted those rats! You even had an article written about you in Papillon Revue in early 2014 as the first papillon to earn the RATN title.
After we retired you from Barn Hunt it took almost a year for you to get excited about Nosework again, and then you were my honest little searcher once more, attaining your NW3 title on your birthday last year. You also enjoyed being the neutral dog for Pet Partners – especially when there were horses!
But your favorite thing to do was to dance…we never competed in Musical Freestyle but when we played, all eyes were on you. You loved DWTS and would do all your little dance moves in the family room with Mom (and her 2 left feet) for treats. You also loved to come to work with me and perform in the office for Mom’s colleagues.
Your other favorite game we played so many times at home – Find the Treat. The smile on your wee face warmed my heart as you searched our house and found all the hidden treats. You taught me that it wasn’t where we played, but that we played.
This last year has been a difficult one for both of us. You have overcome many challenges over the years with resiliency and grace. But your tiny body didn’t have the energy to fight this last one and you let me know you were ready to transition. I thanked you for taking care of me and told you it was OK to leave me and go find Nana, who would welcome you to sit on her lap until it is my time to join you…until then sweet girl, fly free.
A donation was made in Siobhan's memory and the memorial was created on January 6, 2020.
