Sammy Medeiros-Kane

Sammy was born on September 11, 2003. He was rescued from the Kauai Humane Society in early 2004 by my youngest son Dillon Kane. We suspected Sammy was an abused puppy when we adopted him by certain signs he showed. Sammy soon became the ruler of the house and we always joked that we didn’t live in our home, but we lived in Sammy’s home and we were just his servants. Sammy was very spoiled. He had a lot of health issues throughout his life while living on Kauai and there were many times we thought we were going to lose him. But Sammy was a dog with nine lives. He always bounced back. In 2017 Sammy was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He wasn’t given much time but again he surprised all of us and fought so hard. In 2018 my husband Bill and I made the decision for me to move to Oregon to be closer to our sons and our grandchildren. Bill flew us in first class to Oregon and the entire trip Sammy was the inflight star. He watched the observed the world above the clouds looking so amazed. We knew Sammy would never return to Hawaii because his condition was expected to advance. Sammy got to experience so much since he relocated to Oregon. He made a few trips to Seattle where he got to go up the Space Needle. He got to visit the Tillamook Cheese Factory. He attended many soccer and football games. He traveled to the Coast and to Mount Hood a lot. He enjoyed his first and only snow play in 2018. He watched seasons change something he never experienced in Hawaii. Every evening if we were at home, Sammy would stand at the patio door and watch the sunset. Sammy celebrated his 16th birthday on September 11, 2019. He visited Clear Lake and Trillium Lake the week before he passed. He enjoyed a nice sun bath and a great hike that day. Sammy was our furry child. Sammy was my companion. In the early morning of October 3, 2019, he had an aneurysm and a few hours later we set his spirit free. If love could’ve saved our Sammy, he would’ve lived forever. Love and miss you our Sammy Boy. Forever in our hearts. September 11, 2003-October 3, 2019
