Harley came to us when she was 9 years old. She is a quarter pony, 1/2 Welsh and half quarter horse. She was a beautiful tobiano chestnut pinto. Her registered name was Firefly CS. We bought her for our 3 young grandchildren to learn how to ride. She was a bit of a challenge for them for the pony in her made her pretty stubborn, but the more they rode the better they got and the better Harley became and they would eventually go trail ride with her and do gaming’s on her. They even did a few pony shows with her. Eventually the grandkids grew up and got too big to ride her anymore but we had twin grandsons come along and I had aspirations of her teaching them how to ride and they did get to ride her some but she was mostly retired to pasture.
Harley was boss mare around here, she kept the other six horses in line and they had a lot of respect for her. This little lady had not been sick a day since we bought her 14 years ago but we started to notice she wasn’t her feisty self and would stand back at feeding time and not trying to boss the other horses. She began to have trouble walking and developed muscle tremors. We took her up to OSU and had her checked out. The diagnosis was not what we were expecting or wanting to hear. CANCER! in her lunges and brain! We were devastated to say the least. So we brought her home spoiled her rotten for 4 days. All the grandkids and our friends came and said their good byes to her and she was laid to rest 5 days before her 23rd birthday which would have been May 23, 2022. She is so very much missed💔
A donation was made in Harley's memory and the memorial was created on June 16, 2022.
